Guess what i’m writing about.

Whaea Sandy told us to choose a picture from these four underneath and we had to write about our five senses in that moment that the picture was taken. Try and guess which picture I chose.

The speed was exhilarating as I jumped over and over the bumps on the track. The forest was lush and green as I raced past. The smell from the trees was fresh and piney. The taste of the air was pure and fresh. I could hear the crunching of the dried-out sticks underneath my tyres.

Golf

On Wednesday nights I go to Whangaroa golf course with my friend Molly and some other kids from my school and other schools. Two wednesdays ago the oraniser Bbo asked us if we were doing a tournament at the course in a few weeks. We did not know anything about it because the organisers hadnt contacted our school.  So Mollys mum, Hannah, asked a few of us if we wanted to do it as a team and we said yes. So then she contacted the organisers and so we were a team!

On Monday morning me, Molly, Maliya, Moss and Hannah drove us to the golf course.  When we got there we were intimidated becayse all the teams there were rich people from Kerikeri and they all had their own golf kits. But we were ok in the end. We started and hole 7 and endedn at 15, we lost a lot of balls and broke a driver. When we went back to the clubroom they gave us chicken nuggets and chips for lunch. We soon realised that prisegiving was at 2.30 becasue we had to wait fo the 18holers (we only did 9) and because we knew we hadnt won we drove back to school and hopped on the bus and went home. In my opinion we did pretty well considering we were the youngest team.

Descriptive writing

Recently Whaea Sarah came back from her holiday to America she brought us back some american chocolate to try then set us the task of writing a few sentences for each using our five senses Sight, Touch, Sound, Taste and Smell The three chocolate bars she brought back were butterfinger, BabyRuth ans Crunch.

Crunch-7/10

It smelt like very dark chocolate or cocoa powder the taste was pretty similar. It was very hard and had a sound of biting into super hard chocolate. The packaging looked very inviting and encouraged me to try it.

Butterfinger-9/10

This was by far my favourite one with its buttery caramel flavour and peanut butter smell. It felt flaky on my tongue as I bit into it. It was suprisingly hard the packaging was a very bright yellow.

BabyRuth-6/10

I didn’t really like this one beacuse the nougat tasted rubbery. The packaging had a crinkly noise like opening a bag of chips. It smelt like peanut butter and it felt melty as I held it up to my mouth.

Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori Whakatauki

This week is te wiki o te reo maori and Maniakalani challenged us by making us create a google draw with a whakatauki that means something to us so I chose this one.

“Waiho i te toipoto kaua i te toiroa”

I means Let us keep close together, not wide apart. This means keeping strong, close relationships with friends and loved ones, especially when you are faced with challenges or busy times. I lernt how to download my google drawing as a png image.

School Speech Compitition

A few weeks ago we did class speeches and I got to go through and do mine in front of both year 7/8 classes. Then I got to the hall with a few of my friends Ariya, Molly and Audrey and we did our speeches in front of the school. After Morning Tea we got the results Molly came 1st, I came 2nd, Audrey came 3rd and Ariya came 4th, we all got little goody bags inside there were book vouchers, pens, notebooks and other little key chains. I was very proud of myself for even getting into the second round.

Stuff that has happened

Mathex

two weeks ago me and my team won mathex we got a box of favourites and a medal. In my team was Gracie, Jake, Ariya and Me. There were about fifteen teams and we won this is my second year in a row. when we won we were so shocked. We thought the other oruaiti tem had won. But we were happy to win.

Cross country

Also two weeks ago was cross country I came 11th. The top ten go through to the next round. My friend Gracie didn’t come because she was too chicken. I didn’t get to eat much because as soon as I walked of the track Mrs Bates told me to go to the bus so I had to quickly get a sausage and chips and some lollipops.

Penny’s the best❤

Yesterday we had Penny as our teacher she is my favourite.  First off we had math she was so helpful she helped us with our cousrebooks then afterward she gave us a kahoot!!  Then we did literacy and while we were working on our choiceboards and speeches she came over and asked if we need help with anything.  before lunch she let us watch Kpop Demon Hunters. Then after lunch we did cross country with the whole school and she only made us do three laps instead of five like normal. After that we then did some more kahoots this time New Zealand genral knowlege istead of math. We all had an awesome day.

Anouk from Eco Solutions

Yesterday Anouk from Eco solutions came in to our class and taught us about our local rubbish system.

She taught us the 6rs Reduce, Reuse, Rethink, Repair, Rot, Recycle. We also created our own such as Rehome, Redesign and Remake. If you look on hard plastic things all of them have a symbol that looks like this

They all have different numbers but if you come across a 1,3 or 5 you can recycle it!

If it looks like paper and it can rip recycle it! If it looks like paper but doesnt rip you can’t recycle it.

She showed us a video of our local lanfill in Whangarei it was disgusting.

The Mount Tarawera Explosion🌋

On the 10th of June it is the date that mount tarawera exploded. Whaea Sarah set us the task of learning about the explosion and then writing a report on the explosion. I learnt that’s the pink and white terraces were demolished because of this explosion. Here is my report👇.

The Mount Tarawera Explosion

Mount Tarawera is a volcano in the Taupo volcanic zone.  It has exploded a few times but the most well-known eruption is the Mount Tarawera eruption (1886). This eruption Lasted six hours and demolished one of the natural wonders of the world, the pink and white terraces, covering the terraces in lava and ash. The terraces which were known for their unique silica formations are lost forever.

The eruption killed over 100 people (mostly maori). People from Rotorua went to help the people who were buried in the debris of the eruption. Mount Tarawera was the deadliest volcano ever recorded in New Zealand’s history.

When it erupted there were three columns of fire up in the sky at the same time. Ash and smoke up to 10 kilometres high in the sky.

Stuck at Kelly Tarltons (a mostly true story)

Stuck at Kelly Tarltons

(a mostly true story)

I was tossing and turning in bed, I couldn’t sleep. The next day we were going to the Sea Life aquarium. I was so excited! I was going with my parents, Jimmy and Grampa. We were going to see penguins, stingrays, fishies and lots of other pretty sea creatures.

The next morning I was bouncing up and down with excitement. As we walked toward the building from the car I was thinking about all the different things I wanted to see like turtles and seals. When we finally saw the fishes I was ecstatic! We went through the tunnel and saw sharks went to the penguin enclosure then mum and dad took Jimmy to see the shags and herons, and Grampa took me to go see the stingrays.

They were so magical in the water looking so graceful and neat. Then we decided to meet my parents and Jimmy at the exit. As we walk toward what we think is the exit we go past the penguins. I realize that we have already gone past the penguins but decade to ignore it for the while. But when we go through the tunnel of stingrays I start to get worried.

“Where are we going, grampa?” I ask.

“Honestly, I have no Idea” He replies.

We walk towards the sign to the turtles knowing they are close to the exit. At the turtles we see the sign for the gift shop and walk towards it when we finally get to the gift shop we ask the lady behind the counter where to get out.

“Just over there, sir” she says pointing at a glass door, with a sign saying ‘See You Next Time!’.

“Phew” breathed Grampa.

Then we hear footsteps behind us

“What took you so long?!” says Mum as we swivel around.

“Its a long story” We both say in unison
