Stuck at Kelly Tarltons

(a mostly true story)

I was tossing and turning in bed, I couldn’t sleep. The next day we were going to the Sea Life aquarium. I was so excited! I was going with my parents, Jimmy and Grampa. We were going to see penguins, stingrays, fishies and lots of other pretty sea creatures.

The next morning I was bouncing up and down with excitement. As we walked toward the building from the car I was thinking about all the different things I wanted to see like turtles and seals. When we finally saw the fishes I was ecstatic! We went through the tunnel and saw sharks went to the penguin enclosure then mum and dad took Jimmy to see the shags and herons, and Grampa took me to go see the stingrays.

They were so magical in the water looking so graceful and neat. Then we decided to meet my parents and Jimmy at the exit. As we walk toward what we think is the exit we go past the penguins. I realize that we have already gone past the penguins but decade to ignore it for the while. But when we go through the tunnel of stingrays I start to get worried.

“Where are we going, grampa?” I ask.

“Honestly, I have no Idea” He replies.

We walk towards the sign to the turtles knowing they are close to the exit. At the turtles we see the sign for the gift shop and walk towards it when we finally get to the gift shop we ask the lady behind the counter where to get out.

“Just over there, sir” she says pointing at a glass door, with a sign saying ‘See You Next Time!’.

“Phew” breathed Grampa.

Then we hear footsteps behind us

“What took you so long?!” says Mum as we swivel around.

“Its a long story” We both say in unison

Glow worms

With Rob on Monday we  researched glow worms and I came up with ten facts. I learnt that glow worms arent actually worms. Here are my facts👇

  1. Glow worms aren’t even worms, they are a mosquito looking insect.
  2. Glow worms are bioluminescent, just like anglerfish!
  3. Glow worms prey on mayflies, midges, moths, and flies and even their own kind.
  4. The species of glow worms in NZ are called Arachnocampa luminosa.
  5. A female lives up to 76 hours while males live up to 96 hours.
  6. Only males can fly.
  7. Females climb up stalks of grass towards the horizon and moonlight and twist and turn their glowing abdomens for 2 hours a night.
  8. Their nests are like hammocks.
  9. Their Maori name is titiwai, which translates to lights reflected in the water.
  10. They only turn on at night and turn off at dawn.

Property boxes

These are boxes in which you place lost property of others, so that they can find it easily. I learnt how to screw. I wish we had made more boxes. The big idea was helping others and creating something sustainably. I think we put the boxes together well. My favourite part in the process was screwing the boxes together. My least favourite part of the project was sticking the collages to the boxes. Rob could have given us more time to execute the project.

With Rob in tech Ariya, Gracie and I have been making lost property boxes. The first thing we did was plan the designs for the property boxes. Then we set to work and measured up the triboard and then Rob cut it for us. After that we formed the boxes with screws and then glued the boards together. Then we painted the boxes white and let them dry. Soon we made a collage of shoes and socks and printed them out. Then me stuck them to the boxes with PVA glue and let it all dry.

School Lost Property Box

A few weeks ago my class walked around the school looking at issues in the school. My tech group decided that we would design and create some lost property boxes that are attractive and make people actually want to look in them.

We created a concept statement that shows us what we will need to fix and how to make it. Then we set to work designing, Rob printed out cube nets and we created pro of our property boxes.

This week we started to create our property boxes. We cut 35cm by 35cm squares out of some triboard. It took some time to perfect one but when we had succedded we templated the square 18 times we need 20 squares to make 4 boxes. We will need to make 2 more out of the spare sheets of wood. Then Rob cut the squares out and we sanded them. That is as far as we got.

Before the disaster George had been……..

a pig. He enjoyed jumping in muddy puddles with his sister, Peppa. His favourite toy was a dinosaur named dinosaur, which was given to him by his grandparents. His favourite food was Mummy pigs spaghetti, chocolate cake and strawberries. His best friend was Richard rabbit, they usually played on the seesaw together.

But he was growing old so his parents sent him off to live by himself. As he walked through the entrance of his new home the sign above the gate read ‘SlaughterHouse’.

It was nearing Christmas and the Brits wanted their Christmas ham.

He tasted delicious!🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓

Swimming safe

This week we have been doing swim safe with a lady called Skyla. She has taught us to float in three ways, do a safe entry, float with our hand up and how to save someone with a floatation device. She told us to save ourselves before going in to save them. It was very cold but Skyla was chill.
